Contemporary Designer Rugs — Hand-Knotted Modern & Exclusive Styles
Modern Designer Rugs for Stately Interiors
“Where centuries of Tibetan craft meet the precision of contemporary design — our designer rugs are made, not manufactured.”
A New Generation of Hand-Knotted Art
Our Contemporary Designer Rug collection bridges two worlds: the ancient knotting traditions of Nepal, Tibet and Persia, and the architectural language of modern interiors. Each piece is hand-knotted from Tibetan highland wool, mulberry silk, bamboo silk or linen blends — producing surfaces with depth, lustre and tactile presence that machine-made rugs cannot reproduce.
Designed for collectors, architects and interior designers, these rugs anchor open-plan rooms, soften minimalist concrete, and ground sophisticated living spaces with quiet luxury.
Our Designer Lines
Makalu Design
Our flagship designer programme, woven in Kathmandu. Three signature lines: Makalu Edition for limited art-curator pieces, Makalu Domus for residential luxury, and Makalu Century for transitional classics. Available in over 1,200 colour combinations and six knot densities, fully bespoke.
Perfect Plains — Solid Colour Bamboo Silk
Single-colour, hand-knotted bamboo silk rugs with a soft sheen that shifts with the daylight. The minimalist statement piece for design-led interiors.
Ocean Silk & Sabah Collections
Modernist colour fields and architectural compositions in pure silk and silk-wool blends. Each rug is signed and numbered.
Art Edition — Inspired by Paul Klee, Kandinsky and Modernism
Limited-edition designer rugs that translate works of 20th-century abstract art into hand-knotted textile. Lead time typically 3–5 months.
