Tabriz Mahi Rug
Cork wool with silk pattern outlines on a cotton foundation, hand-knotted at roughly 260 kpsi.
The Weave
This Tabriz is worked in the classic Mahi (Herati) design — the repeating fish-and-leaf field that gives the pattern its name, arranged around a stepped ivory medallion. The pile is fine cork wool, with silk reserved for the outlines of the motifs, knotted onto a pure cotton foundation at approximately 400,000 knots per square metre (around 260 kpsi). The result is a crisp, finely articulated field with a soft sheen along the silk tracery.
In Your Home
At 158 × 96 cm (5.2 × 3.1 ft) this is an accent-size piece. The warm red field, ivory medallion and camel and slate-blue tracery suit a seating group, an entry, or the side of a bed, and the all-over Herati drawing rewards a spot where it is seen up close — living room, dining area, study, or a refined stately interior.
