Modern Sari Silk Designer Rug
7.8 × 10.2 ft · 239 × 310 cm
Hand-knotted in India in hand-spun wool and recycled sari silk — a multi-tonal, ribbed-texture designer piece.
Modern Designer Wool with Recycled Sari Silk
This contemporary designer rug is hand-knotted in India in a blend of hand-spun wool and recycled sari silk. The sari silk — reclaimed from traditional Indian garment weaving — introduces a multi-tonal sheen and flecks of colour that catch light differently from the matte wool ground, producing a lively, variegated surface rather than a flat coloured field. The palette runs across ochre, rose, burgundy, grey-blue, olive and gold, shifting with the angle of view. A modern, sustainable interpretation of the Indian master-knot tradition.
A Distinctive Ribbed Weave
The Sari Silk is knotted with the knot rows set further apart by several weft passes than in a conventional oriental rug. This gives the surface a pronounced horizontal ribbed, corduroy-like texture — a quiet relief that runs the length of the piece and catches raking light, reinforcing the hand-made, contemporary character. The pile pairs the resilience of hand-spun wool with the soft sheen of sari silk, on a cotton foundation finished with natural fringes.
Presence in the Room
At 239 × 310 cm (7.4 m²) this is a generous room-size piece. Three contexts in which the Sari Silk reaches its full effect:
-
Modern living room: Under a full seating arrangement, the wool-silk blend establishes a tactile foundation; the sari silk catches the changing daylight as a quiet visual rhythm.
-
Dining room: Beneath an eight-seat table, the wool surface withstands chair traffic while the silk highlights animate the surface under overhead light.
-
Open-plan living space: The multi-tonal palette bridges sitting and dining zones with a warm, lively foundation.
