Design Tip — The Dining Table Solution

A standard 10 × 7 ft (300 × 200 cm) rug is often chosen for dining, but for a classic six-person setup (two seats on each long side, one at each end), it is typically too narrow. Chair legs at the head of the table will slide off the edge when pulled out.

How to use a 10 × 7 ft rug effectively: place the table perpendicular across the rug, with three chairs on each long side and none at the ends. If you prefer the classic wrap-around seating for six people, we recommend our larger formats from 8 × 10 or 9 × 12 ft.

      Frequently Asked Questions

      1. Why is 7 ft (200 cm) width critical for dining?
A standard chair needs about 24–28 in to pull out. With a 7 ft wide rug and a 3 ft wide table, only about 22 in remain per side — not enough to prevent the back legs from tripping over the edge.

      2. Are medium rugs suitable for home offices?
Yes. An 8 × 6 ft size defines a workspace beautifully. Hand-knotted Himalayan or Persian highland wool is extremely pressure-resistant under office chair casters.

      3. How stain-resistant are natural materials?
The natural lanolin in highland wool acts as a shield. Spills bead up before soaking in, making hand-knotted wool rugs far more practical than synthetic alternatives.

      4. What are the benefits of square rugs (7 × 7 or 8 × 8 ft)?
Square rugs centre a room. They are the ideal choice under round dining tables or in square rooms to create architectural symmetry.

      5. Do colours fade in sunlight?
We use lightfast dyes wherever available. Direct midday sun should be avoided for all textiles, but hand-knotted pieces age far more gracefully than industrial products — they develop patina rather than degrade.

      6. Can I clean the rug myself?
Regular vacuuming in the direction of the pile is ideal. For minor stains use clear water and natural soap. We recommend professional cleaning every 5–10 years.
