Fine Isfahan Star Medallion
182 × 104 cm · Beige Field, Cappuccino Star
Beige field, cappuccino-toned border, a cappuccino star-shaped central medallion in finest Kurkwool and silk — the classical Isfahan vocabulary in its quietest, most restrained palette.
A Fine Isfahan from the City of Shahs
Isfahan was elevated to capital of the Persian empire in 1598 under the Safavid Shahs, and from that moment the city's knotting workshops began producing rugs of an unprecedented refinement. Today, a small number of Isfahan workshops continue this lineage — names such as Seirafian, Haghighi, Davari, Mehdie and Heghmatneshad among them — producing pieces that count among the most finely drawn knotted rugs in the world.
This piece was hand-knotted in Isfahan, Iran, by master weavers in the city's direct tradition. The pile is 90 % wool (finest Kurkwool) and 10 % silk, on a pure silk warp. Knot density is approximately 800,000 knots per m² (516 knots per inch²) — the level at which the star-shaped medallion and curling arabesques reach the precision they deserve.
Composition and Palette
A beige inner field carries a cappuccino-toned star-shaped medallion with floral arabesques radiating outward from the points of the star. A cappuccino border frames the composition; silk highlights run through the floral lines and catch the light at every angle. The result is a quiet, neutral Isfahan palette — worlds away from the saturated red-and-blue Persian register — in tones designed to integrate into contemporary interiors with restraint. The star medallion is a less common variant within the Isfahan repertoire and gives the piece an unmistakable graphic clarity.
Presence in the Room
At 182 × 104 cm (1.9 m²) this is a focused collector's format — a piece for considered placement and close looking. Three contexts in which the rug reaches its full effect:
- Minimalist or Scandinavian interior: The neutral beige-and-cappuccino palette pairs naturally with light wood, raw materials and a pared-back aesthetic.
- Library or study: Beside a writing desk or beneath a reading chair, the star medallion rewards quiet, repeated viewing.
- Entrance hall or bedroom: As a hero piece in a small reception area or at the foot of a bed, the restrained tonality reads as quietly confident craftsmanship.
