This Heriz is a beautiful classic piece piece from the 2nd Quarter of the 20th Century, approx. 1940’s. It is hand-knotted with wool, a sustainable material.
It has an elegant color palette with a background with Brown, Caramel, a border in Indigo, Coca Mocha and Baritone Blue. Motifs in Pink and Ebony corners.
Condition: Excellent, little patina and vintage wear, fresh washed
Fringes newly secured, edges and selvedge restored.

The town of Heriz in the region of Azerbaijan is a major carpet center and lies roughly halfway between the cities of Tabriz and Ardebil. Influenced by the nearby Caucasus, the motifs of the Heriz carpets are strongly geometric / graphically drawn. Heriz carpets are relatively coarsely knotted and have a pile made of soft, durable wool. The under fabric is made of cotton. Carpets from the surrounding area are also collected and traded in Heriz. The most famous among these are Ahar, Bakhshayesh, Geravan, Karaja, Mehraban.
The patterns are often geometrically drawn in a classic arrangement with a central medallion and corner gussets. Heriz carpets made of silk are very rare. These are usually from the period 1880 - 1920 and are very popular with collectors.
