Origin & Design
An original Loribaft Aghamiri rug from the Bakhtiari region of southwest Persia. Three stacked diamond medallions — in red, green and orange — run down a deep indigo-blue field that is densely filled with small star blossoms, framed by the characteristic diagonal “barber-pole” striped borders. Hand-spun wool and natural dyes give these nomadic rugs their unmistakable, almost contemporary look. These pieces are no longer being made in Iran — only a few individual examples remain.
Material & Make
Hand-knotted with hand-spun wool pile on a wool foundation. The sturdy, rustic knotting recalls the structure of a Gabbeh, but with a shorter pile. Coloured throughout with natural dyes — plant- and mineral-based pigments that age beautifully and give the deep, luminous indigo, red and green their character. A robust, hard-wearing one-of-a-kind piece, new and unused.
In Your Home
At 300 × 201 cm (6.6 × 9.8 ft) — about 6 m² — this is a generous room-size rug, well suited to a living room under a seating group, a dining table, or a large bedroom. Pure wool and the dense tribal drawing make it forgiving in busy, everyday spaces.
