Paul Klee Art Edition Rug — „Florentinisches Villenviertel", 1926
After Paul Klee's 1926 painting in the Musée National d'Art Moderne, Paris — translated into wool in a fine 150 kpsi Tibetan weave.
Art Historical Inspiration
The inspiration for this designer rug is „Florentinisches Villenviertel" (Florentine Villas Quarter), painted by Paul Klee in 1926 during his Bauhaus years. The original painting is held in the Musée National d'Art Moderne, Centre Pompidou, Paris. Klee's work is celebrated for its rhythmic geometry and refined colour language — architectural fields reading like rows of facades, in a palette that moves between the Mediterranean and modernism.
Our interpretation translates this visual language into a hand-knotted rug: the geometric grid, the warm earth tones and the fine colour shifts come fully into their own in wool. Hand-knotted in our partner manufactory in Nepal in the Tibetan knot, in 150 kpsi (knots per square inch) „Executive" quality, from 100% fine wool.
Presence in the Room
At 200 × 140 cm (2.8 m², approx. 5 × 7 ft) this is a focused designer format for considered placement. Three contexts in which the rug reaches its full effect:
- Modern living room: In front of a sofa as a chromatic anchor — the Klee grid reads as both graphic and quiet.
- Collector's study or gallery: As a central design piece in a room with modern art and Bauhaus furniture.
- Designer office: Beneath a writing desk or in a reception area — the Klee reference is a subtle cultural signature.
