Fine Tabriz 50 Raj Naqsh Medallion
5 × 7 ft · 207 × 150 cm
Beige inner field, red medallion, green and silk highlights — the architectural precision of the 50 Raj weave in a quiet classical register.
A Fine Tabriz from the 50 Raj Workshops
Tabriz, in northwestern Iran, is one of the oldest and most renowned centres of Persian weaving. The city's master workshops have produced fine rugs for centuries, and Tabriz remains a byword for urban-workshop precision in the Persian rug world. Quality in Tabriz is measured in Raj — the number of knots across a 7 cm span. A 50 Raj piece sits in the fine quality range, where the floral drawing reaches the clarity that defines the Tabriz idiom.
This piece was hand-knotted in Tabriz, Iran, in 50 Raj quality at a density of approximately 500,000 knots per m². It is built from 90 % finest Kurkwool with 10 % silk highlights on a stable cotton foundation. The composition follows the classical Naqsh design language: a red floral medallion anchors the beige inner field, foliage and curling vines spread symmetrically across the surface, and silk picks out fine accents through the foliage. Green and the silk highlights enrich the palette without breaking its calm.
Presence in the Room
At 207 × 150 cm (4.9 × 6.8 ft), 3.1 m² this is a generous medium room-size piece. Three contexts in which the Tabriz reaches its full effect:
- Living room: Anchoring a sofa group of three to four pieces, the beige field opens the room while the red medallion gives a quiet centre. Works particularly well with natural materials — wood, leather, linen.
- Executive office or study: Beneath a desk or in a private library, the architectural medallion reads as a quiet signature of taste.
- Dining room: Under a round or square table for four to six, the medallion centres the composition from above.
