Azilal - Colorful rugs from Morocco

Most visitors and tourists that travel around Morocco know the main towns like Agadir, Marrakech, Rabat, Casablanca, Fes or Tanger. An important town for the local rug trade is Azilal.

Azilal is located about 120 miles east / northeast from Marrakech. It takes almost 3 hours for that ride. From Azilal, small and narrow singletrack roads lead to the small villages. These are home to different tribes that make these rugs.

Typical for Azilal rugs is a bright combination of colors - modern pieces often have pink, green, orange and gray motifs. Usually, Azilal rugs are of good quality and wool.
