The south of Persia is very famous for high quality rugs made my Nomads. Various tribes are living around the major city of Shiraz. The largest tribe in the area are the Qashqai people (also Qashgai, Gashgai), smaller ones are Kashkuli, Khamse, Arabaf. Their typical style is a geometric design with vibrant red color made from a plant called Madder or Rubia Tinctorum. The Qashqai also make wonderful Kilim rugs.
