Vintage Tabriz Rug
9 × 8 ft · 285 × 245 cm · Muted Beige
Vintage Tabriz — a near-monochrome beige allover, worn to a quiet patina.
A Soft-Patinaed Tabriz for Contemporary Rooms
Tabriz is one of the most enduring workshop cities of the Persian rug tradition. By the mid-twentieth century, alongside the city's fine atelier production, a parallel body of more workmanlike pieces emerged — generous formats, wool pile, classical compositions worked at a relaxed knot density. Decades of use, careful washing and the natural fading of vegetable dyes have settled this piece into the soft, muted palette that contemporary interiors find easier to live with than a brand-new, fully saturated rug.
Colour and Composition
The design is a classical Tabriz allover floral — palmettes, blossoms and vine-leaves spread across the full field, with no central medallion — read here through an almost monochromatic, muted palette. Beige carries the entire piece, with subtle tonal variation in greige and taupe rather than colour contrast. The pile has been worn and washed to the point where the drawing survives mainly as fine line work and the surface reads as a quiet, harmonious ground rather than a graphic statement. “Worn to perfection” is the trade term for this state.
Placement
At 285 × 245 cm (7.0 m², approx. 9 × 8 ft) the near-square piece anchors a full living-room seating group, fits a dining table with chairs pulled back, or works as a generous statement piece in an open-plan space. Wool pile is durable for everyday use. Use a non-slip pad on smooth flooring; suitable above underfloor heating. A near-monochromatic palette like this one works particularly well in minimalist or contemporary interiors, where the piece becomes a quiet ground rather than a focal point.
