Makalu Domus Designer Rug
4 × 6 ft · 180 × 120 cm
Hand-knotted wool and silk in the contemporary Domus pattern — a Makalu collection piece from the Paulig workshop.
Makalu — A Paulig Brand
Makalu is the hand-knotted designer brand of Paulig, the Franconian rug manufacturer in Schwarzach near Würzburg — a continuous textile tradition since 1750. Where Paulig's Salsa line specialises in handwoven flatweaves, Makalu represents Paulig's contemporary hand-knotted programme: artisan-knotted compositions developed for the European designer market, combining wool and silk with modern colour palettes.
Domus — Contemporary Pattern Design
The Domus pattern is a contemporary geometric composition: an irregular web of fine copper lines spreading like a constellation across a deep teal, petrol-green ground, executed in 85 % wool with 15 % silk accents. The silk-bright copper linework catches the light differently than the matte teal wool ground, giving the surface a subtle play of texture and a low-relief that shifts with the angle of view. Hand-knotted on a cotton foundation, the rug retains the soft hand and lay-flat behaviour of a traditional oriental knot construction.
Room Recommendation
At 180 × 120 cm (2.2 m²) this is a small format suitable for bedside placements, entry halls, study or home-office floor accents, or as a layered piece in a modern living room. The deep teal-and-copper palette works as a colour statement against pale or dark flooring and anchors a contemporary interior.
