A vintage Rudbar village rug from the Hamadan region of west-central Persia — hand-knotted in wool, with a bold stepped medallion on an ivory field.
Rudbar — A Hamadan Village Weave
Rudbar is a weaving village in the wider Hamadan region of west-central Persia, one of the oldest and largest rug-producing areas in the country. Hamadan village rugs like this one are single-wefted, hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation, and prized for their robust, honest construction and confident geometric drawing. This piece is vintage, knotted in the 1970s–80s, and carries the warm, lived-in character of a genuine village rug.
Colour and Composition
An ivory field is centred on a bold terracotta-red stepped medallion with a hooked outline and a central rosette in orange, teal and navy. Across the ivory ground, stylised flowers and star-rosettes are scattered in navy, rust-brown, teal-green, salmon and gold. A dark navy-black main border carries a continuous chain of rosettes in red, ivory and teal, framed by narrow guard stripes. Ivory wool fringes finish the ends.
