Ursprung, Herkunft und Materialien der Shirvan Teppiche

Shirvan Teppiche gehören zur Stil Art der Kazak Teppiche und stammen ursprünglich aus dem Kaukasus, einer gebirgigen Region in den Ländern Azerbaijan, Armenien, Georgien, Türkei und Russland. Sie liegt zwischen dem Kaspischen Meer und dem Schwarzen Meer. Seit dem 18. Jahrhundert werden in den Dörfern traditionelle Teppiche mit geometrischen Mustern geknüpft. Die Knotendichte von Shirvan Teppichen ist in der Regel höher als bei Kazak Teppichen. Die Motive sind typisch und regional unterschiedlich. Alte und antike Shirvan Teppiche sind oft sehr wertvoll und hochpreisig, da sie bei Sammlern begehrt sind. 
Heute werden Teppiche mir Shirvan Motiv nur in geringer Menge in Azerbeijan geknüpft. Die meisten Shirvan Teppiche stammen heute aus Knüpfereien in Pakistan und Afghanistan, Die Qualität dieser Teppiche ist grundsätzlich gut bis sehr gut. Als Flormaterial wird lokale Wolle verwendet, die Kette und die Schussfäden sind aus Baumwolle, was den Teppichen eine angenehme Stabilität verleiht.
