Antique Haji Jalili Tabriz – A Masterpiece of Persian Heritage
"A centennial treasure of silk-like Kurkwool, embodying the golden age of Tabriz weaving."
The city of Tabriz has been the heartbeat of Persian weaving for centuries, producing carpets of such technical brilliance that they anchor the world’s most prestigious textile collections. From the Victoria and Albert Museum in London to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Tabriz masterpieces are celebrated for their intricate "Mahi" (Fish) patterns and unparalleled knot density. They represent a pinnacle of Islamic art that remains the benchmark for collectors today.
Among the legends of this craft, the name Haji Jalili stands alone. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, his workshop revolutionized the Tabriz aesthetic by introducing a softer, more sophisticated palette of beige, terracotta, and subtle greens. Haji Jalili rugs are renowned for their velvet-like "Kurkwool" (the finest wool from the lamb's neck), creating a luminous, silk-like finish that is both tactile and ethereal.
